Delhi airport records highest rainfall in last 46 years as national capital inundated

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the national capital has recorded 1,100 mm of rain in the monsoon season this year. This is the highest in the last 46 years. The IMD further said that this season Delhi has received almost double the rainfall recorded last year. However, the figures are subject to change as the IMD has predicted more rainfall in the city during the day.

“The Safdarjung Observatory, which is considered the official marker for the city, had forecast 1,150 mm of rainfall in the 1975 monsoon season. This year, the rainfall has already reached the 1,100 mm mark and the season is not yet over ” The IMD official was quoted as saying by PTI in his report.

“There is a possibility of light to moderate rain in the next two days. One more rain is expected around September 17-18,” the official added.

Due to heavy rains, the problem of water logging has been seen at many places including Moti Bagh and RK Puram in South Delhi. Delhi Airport Terminal, and others. According to a PTI report, 4 domestic flights, including 2 of SpiceJet and one each of Indigo and GoFirst, were diverted towards Jaipur due to waterlogging in the forecourt of Delhi airport. An Emirates flight, an international flight from Dubai to Delhi, was also diverted to Ahmedabad.

A purported video of flood water in Delhi airport is going viral on social media.
