Delhi air pollution: Slight improvement in AQI with decline in ‘poor’ category; The ban on the entry of trucks will continue

The System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting Research (SAFAR) has said that Delhi’s air quality on Monday remained in the very poor category with an overall AQI at 357. The air quality in the city was very poor with the AQI at 382 at 9 am on Sunday. Neighbors Faridabad (347), Ghaziabad (344), Greater Noida (322), Gurgaon (345) and Noida (356) also recorded their air quality in the ‘very poor’ category.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai will hold a high-level meeting today to review the restrictions imposed to reduce pollution levels in the national capital.

The Delhi government on Sunday extended the ban on entry of trucks carrying non-essentials and work-from-home trucks into the city till November 26 for its employees to tackle air pollution and reduce its health effects. Schools and colleges will remain closed till further orders as per the instructions of the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM), a senior official said.

A senior central government official had said that the CAQM will hold a review meeting on November 23. “Considering the forecast of very poor air quality and vehicular pollution will lead to widespread air pollution and release of harmful air pollutants, especially when the air quality is very high. Poor, it is felt that vehicular traffic in Delhi There is a need to further increase the restrictions on the movement of people,” said the order issued by the Environment Department.

It said, “Prevent entry of trucks into Delhi except for trucks carrying essential commodities till November 26, subject to further review for extension of this date.” “All offices of GNCTs/Autonomous Bodies/Corporations of Delhi shall remain closed till November. 26 except those involved in essential and emergency services…. However, all officers/officers shall work from home,” the order said.

Following the CAQM orders, the Delhi government on Wednesday had issued 10 directions, including a ban on the entry of trucks carrying non-essential goods into the city and closure of schools and colleges till further orders.
