NEW DELHI: There were 19 new Covid-19 patients on Saturday, the lowest since April 15 last year, while the positivity rate came down to 0.03%. Health department officials said no death was recorded due to the infection in the last 24 hours.
On Friday also, the capital recorded no death due to Covid-19, while 57 fresh cases were reported with a positivity rate of 0.08%. “This is a very positive sign. But we have to continue to strictly follow the preventive measures to ensure that there is no resurgence in the number of cases,” said an official.
Delhi was hit by a brutal second wave of the pandemic that claimed a huge number of lives in the country, and the issue of lack of oxygen supply in various hospitals added to the crisis.
Since April 19, the number of daily cases and deaths in a single day has been increasing rapidly, with more than 28,000 cases and 277 deaths recorded on April 20; On 22 April, there were 306 deaths. According to official figures, a record 448 deaths were recorded in the city on May 3.
However, since June, the city has been witnessing a decline in both cases and deaths due to the virus. Twenty-five fresh cases of Covid-19, the lowest since April 15 last year on Saturday and two deaths were recorded on Thursday, while the positivity rate stood at 0.04%.
On Wednesday, the city recorded 36 cases and four deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 0.05%. On Tuesday, the city recorded 38 cases and four deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 0.07%. The infection rate which had reached 36 percent in the last week of April, has now come down to 0.08 percent.
