The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by the Defense Minister, sources said. Rajnath Singh, approved the requisite changes in the joint venture with Russia To manufacture over six lakh AK-203 rifles over a period of 10 years at Korwa Ordnance Factory in Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh.
The DAC had in January 2019 granted “Acceptance of Requirement” (AoN) for the AK-203 rifle project at an estimated cost of Rs 4,358 crore. But since then it has been stuck on cost, royalty, technology transfer and others. The issues, as previously reported by TOI.
There was no official word on the rifle project on Tuesday, but Ministry of Defence The said DAC had provided the AON to the IAF’s proposal for a ground hub for real-time connectivity of the GSAT-7C satellite and software-defined radio.
“The project envisages complete design, development and launch of the satellite in India. Its induction will enhance the capability of the armed forces to communicate with each other in a safe mode under all circumstances beyond the ‘line of sight’,” an official said.
GSAT-7C, which will be launched in the next two to three years, will be the second dedicated satellite for the IAF. The force already has GSAT-7A, which was built by ISRO primarily for communication.
The GSAT-7C, in turn, will be geared more towards a “secure operational data link” between aircraft and drones, which can fly over enemy territory or over the Indian Ocean as well as ground stations.
