‘Deeply Hurtful’: Omar Abdulah On Karnataka BJP MLA K S Eshwarappa’s ‘Is Allah Deaf’ Remark

Siliguri: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah has reacted strongly to Karnataka BJP leader KS Eshwarappa’s remark that ‘Azaan’ (Muslim call to prayer) from loudspeakers disturbs people and termed it “deeply hurtful”. . Responding to Eshwarappa’s comments, Abdullah tweeted, “Keeping aside for a moment the deeply hurtful comments from the BJP, who will explain to this ignoramus that Azaan is not a prayer to Allah, but in fact, Prayer is meant for Allah.” People. While Allah hears and sees everything, man regrets not often.

Significantly, Eshwarappa had courted controversy by saying that loudspeakers used for azaan disturb people, especially students preparing for exams and patients in hospitals.

He was replying to a question on his remark on Azaan made during BJP’s Vijay Sankalp Yatra in Shantinagar on Sunday, which has gone viral on social media. Addressing a rally, the former minister had said, “Will Allah listen only when prayers are read out through loudspeakers.” “I have not insulted any religion with my statement,” Eshwarappa told reporters here.

He further said that the leaders of the Muslim community should consider the issue and take an appropriate decision. The former minister also said that his party only wanted the votes of Muslim nationalists in the upcoming assembly elections. BJP had never said that it does not want the votes of Muslims. “We want the votes of those Muslims who are nationalists,” he said.

On the allegations of corruption against the BJP, Eshwarappa said that the Congress was trying to hide its corrupt deals during the previous government.

On the reception organized by BJP workers for party MLA Madal Virupakshappa after he got bail in a bribery case, Eshwarappa said he does not approve of such antics by party workers. “Congress leaders, who have been criticizing it, have not regretted giving a rousing welcome to DK Shivakumar on getting bail,” he said.

Eshwarappa expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge victorious in the coming elections. The candidates will be finalized by the party leadership, he said.
