Tokyo Olympian Deepak Punia won the bronze medal by defeating Maksat Satyabaldi in the 86kg freestyle weight category at the U23 Asian Wrestling Championships 2022 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Despite a win, it was an ineffective result on their part as the Indian contingent was expecting a better performance in the tournament than the World Championship silver medalist.

In the opening two rounds, 23-year-old Punia lost to eventual gold medalist Azizbek Faizulaev of Uzbekistan and Nurtilek Karipbaev of Kyrgyzstan. However, he defeated Satyabaldi of Kazakhstan to win the bronze medal.
