A 22-year-old Canadian-Portuguese actor named Saint Von Colucci, who worked in South Korea’s entertainment industry, passed away last week as a result of issues resulting from surgical procedures. It was reported that he wanted to look like BTS Jimin, who has massive popularity. As per recent developments, the report has been determined to be a hoax.
For the unversed, DailyMail reported last week that the actor spent more than $220,000 on 12 plastic procedures to look like Jimin. He had jaw implants in November, and had them removed on Saturday. Even though he knew the surgery would be dangerous, he decided to go ahead with it and it resulted in him getting an infection. He then had to be intubated. Hours later, he died from complications.
St. von Colusi, producing AI?
Now, the latest reports suggest that St. von Colucci never existed. In a shocking turn of events, multiple pieces of evidence point to him being the product of an advanced hoax involving artificial intelligence, Al Jazeera reported.
Felix M Simon, a journalist and doctoral student at the Oxford Internet Institute, said, “False and misinformation generated with the help of AI tools is definitely a cause for concern, as they will make life more difficult for fact-checkers and journalists. ” told Al Jazeera.
How did it all start?
The whole thing started when a public relations firm called HYPE Public Relations issued a press release to media around the world on April 23 announcing von Colucci’s death at a hospital in Seoul.
The press release is full of red flags and even the hospital mentioned doesn’t actually exist.
After the story was broken by the Daily Mail Online, it was quickly picked up by media outlets around the world. On Wednesday, Daily Mail Online abruptly removed the item without explanation or retraction notice.
