Deadly love triangle: Chennai PhD student, boyfriend stab her ex after ‘constant harassment’

On December 30, a 26-year-old PhD student and her boyfriend were arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman’s ex-boyfriend to death in Kelambakkam, Chennai. According to the police, the man was harassing her and inciting her to marry her and was threatening to upload their pictures online. ,

The deceased person Senthil (44), a resident of Melappuliyur area of Perambalur district, was working as an employee in a private engineering college in Chengalpattu district. The 26-year-old accused Despriya, a resident of Tiruvannamalai district, is a research scholar in the same college. Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Arun Pandian, who hails from Ulundurpet, is also a research student at a university in Kattankulathur, near Chennai.

Senthil left for work at around 3 pm on the day of the incident and got out on his two-wheeler. Apparently a young man and a young woman on a two-wheeler chased them. After this he stopped his vehicle on a bridge in front of Senthil and an argument ensued. According to eyewitnesses, the police said the trio had a heated argument when Despriya and Arun Pandian slit Senthil’s throat and stabbed him several times with a knife at the end of the argument.

Senthil collapsed and died on the spot, covered in blood. When young men and women, who carried out the daylight crime on the busy road, tried to escape in a vehicle, people caught them. Meanwhile, Kelambakkam police reached the spot and recovered Senthil’s body and sent it to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for post-mortem. After this, both were arrested and taken to the police station for questioning.

Later in the investigation, shocking information came to the fore. Despriya and Senthil fell in love when they completed their studies at a private college on the outskirts of Chennai. Eventually, Senthil married another woman while Desapriya was pursuing her research at another college. Thus the girl distanced herself from Senthil and started having a relationship with another man who was her friend. On learning about this, Senthil left his college where he was working and joined as a physics demonstrator in the college where the girl was pursuing her PhD.

After that, he kept harassing Despriya as he wanted to marry her. As Senthil’s harassment continued, the woman decided to have a conversation with her lover.

Based on that, the police said that the two had gone to meet Senthil with a knife, planning to have a conversation with Senthil and kill him if he promised to stop harassing Despriya, or if he remained stubborn. If promised, they can leave it. Senthil was stabbed to death due to a heated argument.

Tiruppur Police has arrested both of them and started further action.
