The government has extended the deadline several times in the past as well.
Earlier this year, the IT department extended the last date for linking PAN-Aadhaar from March 31 to September 30, in view of the challenges faced by people due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Aadhaar is a 12 digit identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to a resident of India. Whereas, PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric number allotted by the IT department to an individual, firm or entity.
