DC vs SRH: Kane Williamson doffs his hat to former teammate David Warner after crushing defeat

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson credited David Warner and Rovman Powell for their blistering knocks scripted a 21-run win for Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium on Thursday.

David Warner smashed an unbeaten 92 off 58 balls against his old team while Rovman Powell hit an unbeaten 67 off only 35 balls as DC raced to 207 for 3 off their 20 overs. SRH managed only 186 for 8 in their 20 overs despite strong efforts from two of their star batters.

Kane Williamson said the contributions from Warner and Powell was the difference between the two sides at the end.

“An outstanding knock from David Warner and Powell at the end, two great contributions that went a long way toward them winning the game,” Williamson told Star Sports after the match.

Kane Williamson conceded Delhi Capitals had a good total and his batters needed to show some belief in a stiff chase.

“I think they had a fantastic total at the halfway stage. Having said that, as a batting unit you want belief and there was a lot of belief.

“It’s a pretty small ground and there was a little bit of dew. Had we kept wickets in hand.. then who knows,” he said.

“For us, it’s just going back to the drawing board and keeping things really simple. We were put under pressure a lot in that first half and allowed them to get an above par total.

Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered their third successive defeat in IPL 2022 after a five-match winning streak. On Thursday, nothing seemed to work for the side after they made three changes.

Umran Malik, who has intimidated batters this season with his sheer pace was hit for 52 runs in his 4 overs despite bowling the fastest ball of IPL 2022 at 157 KMPH. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the SRH bowlers with figures of 1 for 25 in his quota of 4 overs but the others were taken to the cleaners by their former captain David Warner.

Sunrisers Hyderabad put on an equally poor show with the bat. Abhishek Sharma, Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi were dismissed inside 7 overs and the pressure was squarely on the middle-order.

Nicholas Pooran (62) and Aiden Markram (42) responded well but the two of them scored 104 of the 186 runs SRH managed in a chase of 208.

Kane Williamson should be concerned with his own form at the top of the order as the race for the playoffs picks pace. He is yet to make any impact with the bat despite some fine captaincy.

Williamson said he is working hard to try and get back into form: “You always want more runs. I’m certainly working hard and trying to play a role for the team, staying patient and committed to my own game. It’s one of those things.”
