David Warner has said that he wants to play limited overs cricket for Australia till the 2024 T20 World Cup but will not play in Tests after January next year.

Australian cricketer David Warner has revealed his Test retirement plans, saying he hopes to end his career in the longest format of the game in Sydney against Pakistan in 2024, which will be his last.

Warner is currently preparing for next week’s ICC World Test Championship against India in England and is likely to take part in the five-match Ashes series with England after that.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the WTC final, Warner expected to end his Test career against Pakistan at the SCG in January.

Even though Australia will take on the West Indies soon, the 36-year-old ruled out the possibility of continuing to pull out on the baggy green but said he would focus on white-ball cricket in the West Indies and the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA.

“You have to score runs. I have always said that (2024) World Cup will probably be my last match.

“I probably owe it to myself and my family – if I can get runs here and continue playing back in Australia – I can say with certainty that I won’t be playing the West Indies series.

“If I can get through this (WTC final and the upcoming Ashes campaign) and make the Pakistan series then I will definitely finish.”
