Professional certifications are all the rage among online learners as they attempt to take advantage of the red-hot demand for technical skills. Coursera, one of the world’s largest online learning platforms, has released a list of the ten most popular entry-level professional certificates among Indian learners in 2021. data analysis, UX Design, and Project Management certifications are the most popular.
Raghav Gupta, India and Epac managing director at Coursera, says these certifications are designed to prepare learners without a college degree or technology experience for a wide range of high-demand digital jobs. “For example, someone who has finished their class 12 and has not studied IT but wants to work in the IT support field can take the Google IT support certification course to get a job,” he says. In India, enrollment in job-related entry-level professional certifications increased by 76% last year on Coursera. “The most popular certification course in India is the data analysis course from Google. In 2021, over 1 lakh learners took the course,” says Gupta.
Interest in social media marketing courses has also increased. These certification courses also count for credit at select universities in countries such as the US and UK. However, colleges in India do not yet recognize these certificates.
Globally, in 2021, Coursera will have 92 million heterogeneous users in Machine Learning (Stanford), The Science of Well-Being (Yale), Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere (Google), First Step Korean (Yonsei University), and English for Career Development (University of Pennsylvania).
Several trends in the job market are driving this demand for professional certifications.
