Patna: At least 20 people have been arrested till evening for pelting stones while targeting Darbhanga SSP Babu Ram and other police personnel after trying to clear the crowd gathered near polling stations during the third phase of panchayat elections in Baskatti village of Baheri police station area of ​​Darbhanga district on Friday.
A crowd had gathered near polling stations 333, 333-A and 334 inside a government middle school in a village under Hawidih panchayat.
Two of the 20 people arrested were women. SHO of Baheri police station Mukesh Kumar Mandal told that Rammurthy Yadav, the chief candidate contesting from Hawidih panchayat, is the main accused. Mandal said that at least three constables were injured in stone pelting. “Yadav is evading arrest,” the SHO said.
Benipur SDPO Kumar Sumit said that 26 people, including Yadav, have been named in the FIR registered in connection with the incident.
