Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 16 said racism should be “categorically” condemned after a contestant from Guwahati allegedly made racist rhetoric on a dance reality show.

In a clip from Colors TV’s “Dance Deewane 3”, which is going viral on social media, the show’s host-dancer Raghav Juyal introduces an Assamese child contestant, Gunjan Sinha, with monologues containing words like “momo,” “ching”. are visible. Chong,” and “Gibberish Chinese.” The show’s third season, which aired earlier this year, ended last month.

The chief minister took to Twitter and said that “racist rhetoric” against the contestant was unacceptable. Dance Deewane 3 was judged by Madhuri Dixit-Nene and choreographers Tushar Kalia and Dharmesh Yelande. Remo D’Souza participated in the said episode as a special guest. Raghav shared a video on Instagram in an attempt to “clarify the misunderstanding”. In a video posted on his social media page, Raghav talks about how people have judged the incident on the basis of a small part and accused him without knowing the context. He says being called “racist” is affecting his mental health.

Now Gunjan Sinha’s father has also issued an official statement regarding the controversy. He said, “I can shed light on this because I was a part of the show. She learned to speak Chinese by watching YouTube. When she was asked about her talent in the TV show, she said that she can speak Chinese. They told her to speak Chinese. Asked to speak. That’s why it is mentioned in the script. Not because he is from Assam. People are giving wrong feedback on social media. If those lines were anything to go by, I would have taken a stand, because we are all Assam She is from. Originally, it was scripted because she could speak Chinese.”
