Dakota Johnson Calls Filming Fifty Shades ‘Psychotic’, But She Says ‘I Don’t Regret It’

Seven years after the debut of the erotic romantic trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey on-screen, Hollywood star Dakota Johnson has admitted that she has “never been able to speak truthfully about it.”

The actor, who plays Anastasia Steele in the famous trilogy based on the books of the same name by English author E.L. James, recently told Vanity Fair, “I signed up to do a very different version of that film. Have done what we have made.”

Speaking about the film’s issues, he said that things got a bit complicated after Charlie Hunnam stepped down from his role—he was replaced by actor Jamie Dornan to play protagonist Christian Grey—with lead writer EL James actually playing the original. A story written to be scrapped.

“We would work on the film that Erica wanted to make, and then we would work on the film that we wanted to make,” Johnson said.

According to E! News, the actress, who was 23 when the first film was released, said, “If I had known at the time what it was going to be like, I don’t think anyone would have done it. It would have been like, ‘Oh, It is mental.’ But no, I don’t regret it.”

She called the issues facing a ‘combo’ between studio and director, but “mostly behind-the-scenes writers”. “She had a lot of creative control all day, every day, and demanded that certain things happen,” Dakota recalled.

The actress continued, “There were parts of the books that wouldn’t work in a film, like the internal monologue, which was incredibly cheesy at times. Speaking out loud wouldn’t work. It was always a fight. Always.” “

But for Johnson now the writer has all the water under the bridge. According to E! News she said, “Erica is a very nice woman, and she was always kind to me. And I’m grateful that she wanted me to be in those movies.”
