Daily direct flights from Delhi at Deoghar airport will start from July 25

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has informed by tweeting that the new Deoghar airport of Jharkhand will connect with Delhi through direct flights to and from July 25. In a significant step to provide direct connectivity to Baba Baidyanath Dham, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited newly constructed Deoghar Airport today, July 12. It has been constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 400 crore. The terminal building of the airport is equipped to handle more than five lakh passengers annually. Indigo airline will operate the first flight from the airport to Kolkata today.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation earlier tweeted about the newly-built Deoghar airport and emphasized on how it will boost Baba Baidyanath Dham-centric tourism in the region. “The newly constructed airport at Deoghar is a major boost for Baba Baidyanath Dham-centric tourism in the area. Jharkhand’s second airport after Ranchi will add to the prosperity of the state,” the tweet read.

Officials had earlier said that the airport was ready for commissioning as two flight tests were successful. Indian low-cost airline IndiGo recently announced that it will start flight operations between Deoghar and Kolkata in Jharkhand from July 12. The Deoghar-Kolkata flights will operate four times each week, the airline said in a statement.

Aviation regulator DGCA on June 29 granted an airport license to the newly constructed airport in Jharkhand to allow it to handle narrow-bodied aircraft such as the A321 and B737. The license has been upgraded from 3C to 4C, allowing commercial operation of up to Airbus 321, Boeing 737 type and equivalent aircraft. A 3C license allows an airport to handle only regional aircraft such as the ATR-72. With this, the pilgrims coming to Baidyanath Dham will also be able to contact easily.

When commissioned, it will be the second airport of international standards in Jharkhand after Birsa Munda International Airport in Ranchi and will provide air connectivity to Jharkhand, North West Bengal and South-East Bihar.
