Dadra and Nagar Haveli bypoll results: Shiv Sena leads in early counting of Lok Sabha seats

Dadra and Nagar Haveli by-elections: Former MP Mohan Delkar’s wife and Shiv Sena candidate Kalaben Delkar led by over 4,000 votes in the first hour of counting of votes for the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha seat bypolls. The counting of votes began here at 8.30 am on Tuesday.

After completing three rounds, Kalaben Delkar was leading by over 4,800 votes. An Election Commission official said that he has got 12,268 votes so far, his nearest rival BJP candidate Mahesh Gavit has got 7,418 votes, while Congress’s Mahesh Dhodi has got 447 votes. Voting for the seat, which is part of the union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, took place on October 30.

The by-election had to be held due to the death of Independent MP Mohan Delkar. Mohan Delkar, who won the 2019 election by defeating then BJP MP Natubhai Patel by a margin of 9,001 votes, allegedly hanged himself in a Mumbai hotel on February 22, 2021. He was a member of both Congress and Congress. BJP at different times in his political career.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha seven times from Dadra and Nagar Haveli. In 2019, he won the seat as an independent.
