The weather system is expected to move in a north-northwest direction, gradually gaining strength and likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the same region by May 10 evening.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning saying that Cyclone Mocha, currently forming over the Bay of Bengal, is predicted to strengthen into a very severe storm by Friday, May 12. The cyclone is expected to have winds up to 130 kmph. , The Meteorological Department, however, predicted that Cyclone Mocha would not hit the Indian coastline.

According to the India Meteorological Department, initially identified as a well-marked low-pressure area, it developed into a depression on Tuesday evening, causing winds reaching 45 to 55 kmph and moving south- It moved at a speed of 65 kmph in East Bay of Bengal. Department.

Thereafter, the system is very likely to change course gradually, moving in north-northeast direction. It is expected to make landfall between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyawpyu (Myanmar) during late night of May 14, 2023.

The weather system is expected to intensify further and turn into a deep depression by 5:30 am on Wednesday. Within the next 12 hours, it is expected to develop into Cyclone Mocha with wind speed reaching 80 to 90 kmph and gusting to 100 kmph.
