Cyclone Biparjoy: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that not a single casualty has been reported in Gujarat due to Cyclone Biparjoy and the way the state government and central agencies worked to save lives is an excellent example of teamwork. “There was not a single casualty reported due to Cyclone Biporjoy. The way Gujarat government and central agencies have worked to save lives during the cyclone is a classic example of teamwork.

He further said that around 47 people have been injured due to Byporjoy, but none of them has been seriously injured. Around 234 animals died during the cyclone. “PM Modi had ordered all arrangements to be made before the landfall of the cyclone. The PM himself discussed with the state government and agencies regarding the preparedness.

The Home Minister said that out of 3,400 villages where power supply was cut, power has been restored in 1,600 villages. “Around 1.08 lakh citizens were moved to safer places due to the cyclone. Shah further said, around 73,000 animals were taken to safer places. He said that by June 20, power would be restored in the entire cyclone-affected area.

He further informed that more than 1 lakh fishermen have been taken to safer places. Shah told that 19 teams of NDRF, 13 of SDRF and two teams of reserve battalion have been deployed. “Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Police and BSF have worked with NDRF and SDRF to ensure security,” he said.

He said that the government’s priority is to restore electricity, water supply and send people living in shelter homes to their homes. “The pattern for the aid package has been worked out, the Gujarat government will make an announcement for the same,” he said.

He appreciated the Gujarat government for fully implementing the guidelines of NDMA during Cyclone Biporjoy. He said, “In the last 40 years, I have visited many places, but for the first time I have seen happy faces without any complaints. This is due to the preparedness of the Gujarat government and the central agencies working here.”

Shah today visited Kutch and Jakhau port in Gujarat to take stock of the situation in areas affected by Cyclone Biparjoy. He also held a meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and senior officials.
