Curfew, vehicles torched after stone pelting on Ram Navami procession in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh; 3 policemen including SP injured

Ram Navami processions were pelted with stones in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone city on Sunday, leading to arson, in which some vehicles were torched, prompting authorities to enforce curfew in three areas and Section 144 of CrPC in the entire city. .

Police fired tear gas shells to control the situation. Khargone Superintendent of Police Siddharth Choudhary and two police personnel were injured along with some people in stone pelting. Khargone District Collector Anugrah P said section 144 of CrPC (prohibition on assembly of four or more people) has been imposed in the entire city.

“Curfew has been imposed in three areas of the city, including Talab Chowk and Tawdi,” he said. There have been minor arson incidents after stone-pelting, he said.

When the Ram Navami procession began from the Talab Chowk area near the district headquarters, the gathering was pelted with stones, prompting the police to use tear gas to control the situation. Khargone Additional Collector Sumersingh Mujalde said that some policemen and people were injured.

The collector said that the procession was supposed to circle Khargone town, but it was abandoned midway after violence. The Khargone SP suffered a leg injury and was admitted to a private hospital.
