GUWAHATI: Assam on Saturday revised the existing COVID-19 containment guidelines, in view of the emergence of omicron Type. Night curfew will continue, but with the revised timings, a fine of Rs 1,000 has been imposed for not wearing a mask or spitting in public.
The new curfew timings will be from 11.30 am to 6 am instead of the current schedule of 11 am to 5 am and will be applicable from Sunday, though it will not be applicable for the night of December 31 to allow people to welcome the new year .
All commercial establishments, offices and restaurants will get an additional half-an-hour to keep their shutters down till 10.30 pm instead of the current 10 am. The revised guidelines do not impose any new restrictions on educational institutions, which reopened in October in a graded manner.
The State Executive Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, headed by Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua, after reviewing the status of COVID-19, has noted that “although the overall number of COVID-19 patients and the positivity rate have declined significantly And as overall the situation has improved, strict monitoring is needed to ensure that adequate standards of COVID appropriate behavior are followed with the emergence of the new variant of concern, B.1.1.
The daily COVID positivity rate in the state stood at 0.33% on Friday, with 93 new cases detected on the same day. There were 859 active cases in the state.
Speaking to the media, State Health Minister, Keshab Mahanta said that the state hospitals are ready to fight against the omicron, however with the new version no covid case has been detected yet. “International travelers are being kept in quarantine for seven days even after testing negative for Covid at airports on arrival.
