CSA postpones home fixtures due to COVID-19, adds to uncertainty around India series

Cricket South Africa has postponed a round of home games after some team members tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival, raising new concerns for the team. India Visit at the end of this month.

The BCCI will soon decide on the tour, which is scheduled to begin with the first Test here from December 17.

The discovery of the new COVID-19 variant Omicron in South Africa has created fear across the world and cast a shadow over the India series.

“Cricket South Africa can confirm that all three, Round 4, Division Two CSA 4-Day Home Series matches scheduled to take place between 02-05 December have been postponed,” the board said in a statement.

“The competition is not being conducted in a bio-secure environment (BSE) and in the last few days, some positive COVID-19 test results have emerged after the team’s pre-arrival testing sessions.

“It is a top priority of CSA to activate the precautionary and preventive measures set out in the organization’s COVID-19 protocols to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all involved.”

The India series, if it takes place, will be held in a strict bio-secure environment.

“CSA is monitoring the situation closely and a decision regarding the rest of this year’s fixtures will be made at an appropriate time as it develops.

“In addition, the CSA B-Section 3-Day and 1-Day matches, Northern and Eastern, scheduled for the same weekend, have also been postponed to 2022,” the CSA said.
