Criticism intensified on Chandigarh: Punjab’s response to Haryana’s proposal; Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said – whoever wants to fight, will take capital

The fight between Punjab and Haryana over Chandigarh has intensified. The Punjab government has given a strong reaction to the resolution passed in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that the capital of any state has to be known to the parent state. Here Punjab is the parent state and Chandigarh is the right of Punjab. We have to fight whatever battle we want but will take Chandigarh. Cheema said that the villages of Punjab were destroyed and made Chandigarh. That’s why we got 60% entitlement.

Haryana’s proposal in response to Punjab
The Haryana Assembly had yesterday passed a resolution expressing its right over Chandigarh. Earlier, the Punjab Assembly had called a special session of the Assembly on 1 April and passed the resolution. In which the Punjab Government had asked to give Chandigarh completely to Punjab. Since then, there has been a situation of confrontation between the two states regarding Chandigarh.

Haryana also asked for water by constructing SYL
Going a step ahead of Punjab, Haryana also raised the issue of Bhakra Beas Management Board and Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal with Chandigarh. Haryana said that Punjab should give us water by constructing SYL canal. Haryana has claimed the right on the water of the rivers. He said that the Supreme Court has upheld his claim but Punjab made a law against it. Apart from this, Haryana also asked to give Hindi speaking areas to Haryana.

Controversy started in Chandigarh over central rules
The controversy over Chandigarh started with the imposition of central rules on employees. These rules were implemented after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Chandigarh. After which Punjab got furious and the Punjab Assembly passed a resolution on Chandigarh. After which the proposal has also been passed in Haryana.
