What are the key features of CoWin?
As mentioned, the primary feature is to give users a chance to book vaccine slots anywhere in the country. Users need to register on the CoWin platform with their phone number. After registration, they have to enter an OTP and then proceed to book the vaccination slot.
CoWin also gives users the opportunity to download the vaccination certificate. Users can also add their passport details to the vaccination certificate.
Which countries have shown interest in CoWin?
According to the Indian government, more than 50 countries have shown interest in the CoWin platform. These countries include Canada, Mexico, Nigeria etc.
What technology will India give to these countries?
The Indian government has made it clear that CoWin’s code will be made open source. The government will not add any intellectual property rights to it. The government said the code would be given to countries that are looking for a “systematic and transparent vaccination programme”.
The Government will not allow any commercial use of the Platform or repackaging it in any other form.
CoWin made more ‘open’ to other platforms
API or Application Programming Interface allows two applications to work together. The Indian government opened up the CoWin API to third parties in April. APIs are available on API Setu website where metadata, authentication, certificate details related to API can be found.
