Covishield Production Capacity 250-275 Million Doses a Month, Covaxin 50-60 Million: MoS Health | India News – Times of India

New Delhi: The current vaccine production capacity of Kovishield manufactured by Serum Institute of India, is around 250-275 million doses per month, while it is around 50-60 million doses per month for Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
Minister of State for Health Bharti Praveen, both the companies have achieved about 90 percent of the current production capacity Pawar Said in written reply.
“As informed by Serum Institute of India, the current monthly vaccine production capacity of Covishield is around 250-275 million doses per month.
“Further, as informed by Bharat Biotech International Limited, Hyderabad, the current monthly vaccine production capacity of Covaxin is around 50-60 million doses/month,” she said.
Responding to a separate question, Pawar said the estimated population for over 18 years as per the Registrar General of India (RGI) is 939 crore.
He said that sufficient doses of COVID vaccine have been made available to the States and Union Territories to cover all eligible beneficiaries above the age of 18 years.
“Adequate quantity of the COVID-19 vaccine is manufactured in the country to vaccinate the eligible population. Also, the Government of India has taken several steps to increase the domestic manufacturing capacity of COVID-19 vaccines and accordingly, Vaccines are reserved for eligible beneficiaries as per availability.
“Implementation of domestic immunization program is a priority, therefore, Government of India has permitted export of surplus COVID-19 vaccines only after securing adequate vaccine doses for the National COVID-19 Immunization Programme,” it said in the written reply.
The Minister also said that the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) and national expert group Feather Vaccine Administration For COVID-19 (negvac) is considering and considering scientific evidence relating to the administration of booster doses as well as vaccination of beneficiaries under the age of 18 years.
