COVID Vaccination for Children: CoWin Registration for 15-18 Years Age Group Begins Today

New Delhi: Along with the new year, CoWin registrations have also started for immunization of 15-18 year olds. Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya informed about the start of registration on his Twitter handle.

Dr. Mandaviya wrote, “If the children are safe then the future of the country is secure! On the occasion of New Year, registration on COWIN portal is being started for immunization of children in the age group of 15 to 18 years for #COVID19 from today. I request the family members to register the children eligible for vaccination. #SabkoVaccineMuftVaccine.”

The vaccination campaign for children will start from January 3. And the vaccine option available for children would be the indigenously prepared Covaxin. To register children, a provision has been made on the CoWin website that school ID cards will be accepted as identity proofs considering many of them do not have Aadhaar or other ID proofs.

The Prime Minister, in a televised address to the nation, had announced that vaccines for children between the ages of 15 and 18 would be introduced from January 3.

For the same, ‘Guidelines for COVID-19 Vaccination of Children Between 15-18 Years and Precautions with HCW, FLW and 60+ Population’ were issued by the Union Health Ministry earlier this week. Were. As per these guidelines, “all those whose birth year is 2007 or earlier will be eligible”, news agency PTI reported.

The decision to vaccinate children in the above age group has been taken in view of the increasing number of new cases of COVID-19. omicron Type. For children below 15 years of age, Zydus Cadila’s ZyCov-D was granted emergency use authorization by the Drug Controller General of India in August 2020.

However, the vaccine is yet to be introduced in the country’s inoculation drive. ZyCov-D can be used for children aged 12 to 18 years. According to the DCGI, Covaxin was given the EUA for children over the age of 12 with certain conditions.

Apart from children, a “precautionary dose” was also announced by the PM, which will start from January 10. The third dose of the vaccine will be available to frontline workers as well as people over the age of 60. Dosage can be decided in consultation with the doctor.
