Covid Update: Infections continue to rise in India, over 1000 new cases reported

New Delhi: India continues to report over 1000 COVID infections and the situation is causing concern with the increasing number of cases in schools and colleges. There are 1,007 new coronavirus infections in the country, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 4,30,39,023 in the last 24 hours.

With the new cases and 818 patients recovering from the deadly disease, the active cases rose to 11,058, according to the data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday.

The death toll rose to 5,21,737 with one death reported from Maharashtra, data updated at 8 am.

Active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.76 per cent, the ministry said. The active COVID-19 caseload has registered an increase of 188 cases in a 24-hour period.

According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.23 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 0.25 per cent. The number of people recovering from the disease increased to 4,25,06,228, while the death rate was recorded at 1.21 percent.

The cumulative dose administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign has exceeded 186.22 crore.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra recorded 124 new coronavirus positive cases and one death on Wednesday, the health department said.

With this, the state’s COVID-19 tally rose to 78,75,448 and the toll to 1,47,821.

On Tuesday, the state recorded 113 cases and four deaths.

In the last 24 hours, 113 patients were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 77,26,903. The recovery rate from Kovid-19 in the state is 98.11 percent.

There are 724 active cases in the state. A PTI report said that there are no active cases in Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Latur, Osmanabad, Yavatmal, Bhandara, Chandrapur districts.

73 fresh cases were reported in Mumbai. One death in the state has been reported from Sindhudurg district. The state’s case fatality rate is 1.87 percent.
