COVID Spike: Private coaching institutes in Delhi closed till further orders, online classes may continue

The Directorate of Education (DOE) on Wednesday said private coaching institutes in the national capital will remain closed till further orders due to the rapid rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, but online cases may continue.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) had recently invoked the Yellow Alert in Delhi following a spike in COVID cases amid the emergence of Omicron type. The closure of schools and colleges was announced under the Yellow Alert. “Private coaching institutes based in Delhi will remain closed till further orders. However, online classes can be continued. All private coaching centers shall comply with the instructions and guidelines issued by DDMA from time to time for the safety and security of the students, teachers, faculties and public,” the DoE said in an official order.

It said, “If any coaching center is found to be violating the instructions, the defaulters will be punished as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other applicable laws.”

The national capital on Tuesday registered a massive spike in daily COVID-19 cases with 496 fresh cases, the highest since June 4, while the positivity rate also rose with one fatality due to coronavirus in the city. -with reached 0.89 percent. The total number of new Omicron type of cases of COVID-19 reported in Delhi has also gone up to 238. There were 67 Omicron cases in the national capital on Friday.
