New Delhi: Asserting the Covid-19 “situation is in control”, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said the national capital will report less than 5,000 cases.
“Today Delhi will report less than 5,000 cases and the positivity rate will also come down from the existing 10%,” said Jain, ANI reported.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has called a meeting on Thursday to deliberate on easing the curbs in the national capital.
The issue of reopening schools in the national capital is also on the agenda during the meeting, which comes in view of the improved Covid-19 situation.
Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi reported 7,498 fresh Covid-19 cases and 29 deaths in a day.
The health department’s data released on Wednesday said the positivity rate rose marginally to 10.59 percent, PTI reported.
Around 11,164 patients were discharged in a day, said the health bulletin, adding less than 15 percent of the Covid beds in hospitals were occupied.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier on Tuesday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government does not want the livelihood of people to be affected, adding the Covid-19 restrictions will be eased as soon as possible.
He claimed that there was resentment among some people against Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal’s decision to turn down the proposal to lift the weekend curfew and odd-even scheme of opening shops given the improving Covid situation in the national capital.
Delhi had earlier on Tuesday logged 6,028 new Covid cases and 31 deaths with a positivity rate of 10.55 percent
The national capital had earlier on Monday reported 5,760 new Covid-19 cases and 30 deaths with a positivity rate of 11.79 percent.
There has been a decline in the number of daily Covid-19 cases in the national capital after touching a high of 28,867 earlier on January 13.
Delhi had earlier on January 15 recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 percent, which was the highest during the ongoing wave of Covid infections.
At least 603 people have succumbed to Covid-19 in the national capital so far this month.
