COVID restrictions to be imposed on places of worship, liquor shops: Maharashtra Health Minister

Jalna: To contain the spread of COVID-19, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Sunday that restrictions will be gradually brought in at places of worship and other places, including liquor shops, which attract crowds.

“Restrictions will also be imposed in crowded areas like liquor shops and places of worship,” Tope told reporters here.

“However, as the cases are increasing, the demand for hospital bed stay and oxygen is less. When these start increasing, we will implement stringent restrictions,” he said.

The Maharashtra Health Minister said the restrictions imposed by the state government earlier on Saturday are in the interest of the people.

Earlier in the day, the state government revised the Covid-related restrictions for gyms and beauty salons, allowing them to operate at 50 per cent capacity from January 10 midnight.

The government had said earlier on Saturday that gyms and beauty salons would remain closed, while hair cutting salons would operate at 50 per cent capacity.

The move comes after over 41,000 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra

However, the order was modified on Sunday and beauty salons were grouped with hair cutting salons.

As per the amended order, only those activities will be allowed in which no one is required to remove the mask.

The order states that only fully vaccinated people will be allowed to use these services and all staff engaged in operations will be fully vaccinated.

As per the order, gyms will be allowed to operate at 50 per cent capacity provided they use masks while performing any activity.

The Maharashtra government had earlier on Saturday banned public movement in groups of five or more from 5 am to 11 pm from midnight of January 10.

Further, no movement in public will be allowed from 11 pm to 5 am, except for essential services, the government circular said, PTI reported.

Accordingly, schools and colleges will remain closed till February 15 except for essential activities for class 10 and 12 students and administrative activities of teachers.

It has also been said in the circular that government offices should opt for work from home and if it is necessary to work from office, then the working hours should be different.

No visitors will be allowed in the government offices except with the written permission of the Heads of Offices and the facility of online interaction will be provided for the people through video conference.

Private offices across the state have also been asked to rationalize the number of employees coming to work by allowing them to work from home and reducing working hours.

According to the circular, attendance at marriages and social, religious, cultural or political functions will be limited to 50, while funerals cannot have more than 20 people.
