Delhi COVID Cases Updates: Delhi reported 299 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday (April 13), a jump of 118 per cent from the daily count recorded two days ago, according to data shared by the city’s health department. While the positivity rate was 2.49 percent.

On Friday, the city had reported 146 cases with a positivity rate of 1.39 per cent and one death.

The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Delhi touched a record high of 28,867 on January 13 this year during the third wave of the pandemic.

The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 percent on January 14, the highest during the third wave of the pandemic, largely driven by the highly transmissible Omicron version of the coronavirus.

The bulletin said that 504 COVID-19 patients are in home isolation in the capital.

It added that hospitals in Delhi have 9,745 beds for COVID-19 patients and 43 (0.44 per cent) of them are occupied.

Dr Richa Sarin, Consultant of Pulmonology at Fortis Hospital, had said on Tuesday that this is not a panic situation, however, there is a need to be vigilant and follow COVID-appropriate behaviour.

Criticizing the city government’s recent move to lift the mask mandate, the doctor said, it was not a “steady decision” and if the situation warrants, the rules could be changed again.

According to many doctors, vaccination and herd immunity have “certainly provided a level of protection” to people.

Dr Suranjit Chatterjee, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Apollo Hospitals, cautioned that while daily cases are rising, there has been a “sense of complacency among the public in general”, especially with the mask mandate being removed. After.

“As long as we remain vigilant, follow COVID-appropriate behavior and wear masks when outdoors, especially in crowded places, I don’t see a new wave,” he said.

“But, I have been seeing visuals on the internet and reporting that people are gathering in large numbers and many people are not wearing masks, which means cases may increase further,” he said.
