New Delhi: According to a new survey, only 7 per cent of Indian adults are currently hesitant to vaccinate against COVID-19, the lowest vaccine hesitancy level in the country so far.
Study done by online community platform local circles 12,810 responses were received from citizens in 301 districts – 67 per cent male and 33 per cent female.
It tried to understand their reasons for not taking from illiterate citizens hit and their plan to vaccinate.
42 percent respondents were from Tier 1, 27 percent from Tier-2 and 31 percent from Tier 3, 4 and rural districts.
India has an adult population of 94 crore, and around 68 crore have already received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The responses show that a total of 46 per cent illiterate citizens are planning to take their first dose soon, said Sachin Tapariasaid the founder of LocalCircles.
However, there were 27% of citizens who did not plan to take the vaccine yet because they are not sure whether the ones currently available provide adequate protection against current and future forms of coronavirus, he said.
He said that these 27% are what could be classified as a shy population.
He said that if more data becomes available or different vaccines become available then they can take the vaccine.
“If the entire adult population of India is taken into account, the survey shows that only 7 percent of them are hesitating. If these percentages are applied to the non-vaccinated population of 26 crore adults, then This is equivalent to 7 crore citizens who are still hesitant to take the vaccine,” Taparia said.
According to the survey report, fears expressed by some citizens for their hesitation included safety concerns, rapid clinical trials, speedy vaccine approval, side effects.
Some respondents with medical conditions also cited concerns about possible blood clotting. Some also quoted covid The survey found that going away as a reason for not getting vaccinated.
As per the feedback received, there are some other myths and misinformation as well which prevent people from taking the vaccine.
When the vaccination campaign started in India in January, the vaccine hesitation was 60% which dropped significantly during the brutal second Covid wave that hit India in April-May.
