Covid cases rise in India, over 42k new infections recorded

Corona Update: 42,015 new cases of corona virus have been reported in India in the last 24 hours. India’s active caseload currently stands at 4,07,170. Active cases constitute 1.30 per cent of the total cases. The weekly positivity rate remains below 5%, currently at 2.09%. Daily positivity rate 2.27%, less than 3% for 30 consecutive days.

The recovery rate is currently 97.36% after 36,977 patients have been cured during the last 24 hours.

India has seen a spike in cases as the country recorded over 30,000 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

Kerala reported 16,848 new cases of coronavirus today, pushing the infection caseload to 31,87,716, with the test positivity rate (TPR) climbing close to 12% after being around 10% for several weeks.

The death toll from the killer virus rose to 15,512 with 104 more deaths, a state government release said.

The release said that 12,052 people have been cured of the infection, taking the total number of cured people to 30,45,310 and active cases to 1,26,398.

Malappuram has the highest number of cases (2752), followed by Thrissur (1929), Ernakulam (1901), Kozhikode (1689), Kollam (1556), Palakkad (1237), Kottayam (1101) and Thiruvananthapuram (1055).

Maharashtra witnesses declining trend

Maharashtra’s declining case trend continued on Tuesday, with the state reporting 7,510 recoveries, while the active case count rose to 94,593 due to 6,910 new COVID-19 cases.

The state health department’s medical bulletin said the reconciliation process (completed by July 12) has resulted in a massive spike in cases and fatalities, including 3,509 more deaths and 2,479 cases.

This latest addition has pushed the state’s cumulative death toll to 1,30,753, with 147 deaths in the past week taking the fatality rate to 2.09%.

The total cases have reached 62,29,596 while its cumulative recoveries has increased to 60,00,911 and the recovery rate is 96.33%.
