COVID-19 Unlocked: Tamil Nadu Govt allows reopening of bars, theaters to run with 100% occupancy

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday announced some relaxations in the lockdown extended till October 31 to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state. The government issued orders to allow bars to reopen, allowed cinemas to run with 100% occupancy, and rescinded orders for eateries to operate until 11 p.m.

In a press release on Saturday, the Tamil Nadu government revoked the order prohibiting all shops, eateries and bakeries from working beyond 11 pm.

The state government also allowed indoor and outdoor stadiums to operate in the state to train players in both contact and non-contact sports. It also allowed swimming pools to function for therapeutic purposes.

Meanwhile, the state government announced further relaxations from November 1. The state government said,

  • All schools can start classes for class 1 and 8 students on rotation basis
  • Theaters can operate with 100% capacity by following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • can reopen
  • Inter-state and inter-district buses (except Kerala) with and without AC can operate with 100% occupancy
  • All types of TV and film shooting can be started with the cast and limited audience by following the SOP. Also, all individuals must have taken the vaccine.

However, restrictions for political and religious events will continue, the release said.

Meanwhile, TN Chief Minister MK Stalin requested that people above 18 years of age take both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and support the state in the fight against COVID-19.

As of Saturday, the Tamil Nadu government reported 1,140 new COVID-19 infections and 17 deaths.
