COVID-19: TN reports zero deaths for the first time since March 2020; log 112 new cases

With a declining trend, Tamil Nadu reported zero deaths due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours after a gap of almost two years and 112 pushing the caseload to 34,51,710, the health department said on Friday. Recorded new infections. A medical bulletin said the death toll remained unchanged at 38,023 with zero fatalities in the last 24 hours.

The state reported its first death due to COVID-19 in March 2020 and reached a peak of 10,186 during the second wave of the pathogen in May 2021. The bulletin states that in March 2022 till date, 19 people have died in Tamil Nadu. With 327 people being discharged in the last 24 hours, the recovery of new cases eclipsed, taking the total to 34,12,226 leaving 1,461 active infections.

Among the districts, Chennai reported 42 cases followed by Coimbatore (13) and Chengalpet (12), while the remaining districts reported new infections in single digits. The total number of state capitals was 7,50,654. A total of 42,241 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of samples tested to 6,49,21,412.

Zero new cases were reported in 16 districts in the last 24 hours, the bulletin said.
