COVID-19 positive Michael Vaughan removed from Ashes coverage by BT Sport Channel

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has been removed from BT Sport Channel’s Ashes coverage starting 8 December following allegations of making racist remarks during his stint at the Yorkshire county club in 2009.

The development comes days after the BBC’s decision to remove him from its TV coverage of the series.

Former Yorkshire cricketer Azeem Rafiq alleged that Vaughan said “there are too many of you” after four players of Asian heritage were selected in a county match in 2009.

Vaughan, who denied the allegations, apologized last week for the “injury” caused to Rafiq during his time as a player at Yorkshire.

Vaughan, who announced on Wednesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19, will still join Ashes coverage through his commentary role with Australian host broadcaster Fox Sports.

“The recent report presented to the UK Parliament highlights institutional racism within cricket, and in particular the county of Yorkshire.” Cricket The club is extremely disappointing and a matter of concern for all.”

“Given these recent events and the controversy with the situation, we have decided that the inclusion of Michael Vaughan within our Ashes coverage would not be editorially appropriate or fit with the values of BT Sport.”

BT Sport said it would take a “hybrid” approach to their coverage, with Vaughn’s on-air stint overlaid with studio analysis.

“As a result of Covid and travel restrictions, BT Sport has decided to take our commentary feed from the Australian host broadcaster,” the channel said.

“We are still finalizing plans, but we are assessing the option of taking a hybrid approach, using Fox Commentary where possible, with the aim of establishing our own commentary team if necessary. “

Meanwhile, Vaughan announced on Twitter that his arrival in Australia would be delayed by a week due to a positive COVID-19 test.

“I had to delay my flight to Australia till next week due to positive Covid test, which is disappointing. But at least I’ll avoid the rain in Brisbane for a few days! And I’ll be no more ripe than both teams when I get there. !!” he tweeted.
