New Delhi: Here’s good news for travelers! According to news agency PTI, more than 30 countries have agreed with India on Thursday to recognize the Covid-19 vaccine certificates.
Here is the list of accrediting countries
According to agency sources, the countries that have agreed to mutual recognition with India include the UK, France, Germany, Nepal, Belarus, Lebanon, Armenia, Ukraine, Belgium, Hungary and Serbia.
However, travelers from South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China and some other countries in Europe will have to follow additional measures along with mandatory Covid-19 protocols upon arrival in India. According to officials cited by the agency, some of the measures include post-arrival Covid-19 testing and screening in the country.
According to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi last week, Hungary and Serbia are the latest countries to join the list, agreeing to mutually recognize India’s Covid-19 vaccination certificate. Bagchi said the recognition of vaccination certificates will help people move to the post-pandemic world for education, business, tourism and other things.
The update comes after the UK government cleared the need for mandatory quarantine for vaccinated Indian travellers, after India expressed its displeasure in the wake of this and imposed travel requirements on travelers from the UK in retaliation.
British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis informed in a tweet, “From October 11th Indian travelers to the UK have not been fully vaccinated with Covishield or any other UK approved vaccine.”
On the vaccination front, India on Thursday delivered over 27 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines, which is more than the 97 crore vaccine doses given so far across the country. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare also said that the daily vaccination numbers are expected to rise as the final reports for the day are collected late at night.
