According to the report submitted by the public health department in the cabinet on Wednesday, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Thane and Ahmednagar registered a sharp decline in the active cases’ tally though they still make up for almost 60% of the active patients across the entire state.
These districts had the highest number of active cases last week.
Satara, Solapur and Raigad, too, registered a decline in cases. “It is a good sign,” said an official of the state health department.
The state as on Wednesday had a total of 1,73,221 active patients. The daily case tally reduced to 18,067 as against over 40,000 last month.
While the state’s weekly positivity rate (WPR) dropped, the number of districts clocking above the state average increased to 25 from the last week’s 22.
Gadchiroli topped the list with 46.18% WPR, followed by Nagpur (40.86%), Washim (36.88%), Aurangabad (34.14%), Nashik (34.05%) and Pune (33.84%).
The hospitalization rate increased to 7.15% this week from the earlier 5.7. But the serious cases’ count was still less in the state.
According to the data, 2.28% cases were critical. Around 1.03% patients were in ICUs, of which 0.39% were on ventilator support. About 0.67% patients needed oxygen support.
