Covid-19: Fully vaccinated Indians outnumber those who got just one jab India News – Times of India

New Delhi: In a remarkable measure of immunization progress in India, more adults are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19 than those who have just been partially vaccinated.
According to the latest data on CoWin, more than 38 crore people have received both doses of the vaccine while around 375 million people have received only one dose.
This indicates that India is on track to complete the second and most important phase of its immunization programme, where all those who have already received the first dose are now fully vaccinated against the virus.

The Union Health Ministry in a statement said, “In a significant achievement for nationwide immunization coverage for the country, for the first time the number of fully vaccinated persons has exceeded those who have been given only a single dose. ”
Sharing the news on Twitter, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that this achievement has been possible due to the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Jan-Bhagidari’ and ‘Total Government Approach’, people’s faith and trust in the government, and the ongoing ‘ Have pie. ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ campaign.
The achievement comes just a month after India reached the historic milestone of delivering over 1 billion vaccine doses.
India has given more than 113 crore doses so far covid vaccine for its eligible population. According to population estimates, India would need to provide roughly 188 million doses to fully cover all adults.

Among the larger states, Kerala and Gujarat, have already vaccinated more than 40% of their total population. If we only look at the eligible population i.e. those of 18 years of age and above, the figures will be higher. Delhi is also not behind.
However, much more remains to be done in heavily populated states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as almost half of their population is yet to receive a single dose.
When can we expect 100% coverage?
Given the current vaccination rate, which is just above 50 lakh doses a day, India will be able to fully vaccinate all its adults by April 2022.

However, that means the center will fall short of its ambitious target of fully immunizing all adults by December 31 this year.
With the current pace, only 72.5% of Indian adults will be fully vaccinated by the end of this year. This is based on the latest adult population estimate, which is approximately 94 crores. This means the country would need to provide around 188 crore doses to cover all people who are 18 years of age or older.
