The couple got the support of a girl’s brother, who was present there at the time of their marriage, and performed the kanyadaan.
The matter came to light when a video of the wedding went viral on Tuesday. In the video, the couple can be seen exchanging garlands inside a temple.
Swadi Kalan sarpanch Lal Singh said that though people are shocked by the marriage, but when they are married and the girl’s cousin’s family has accepted them, they cannot do much. He said that the sarpanch of that village has told him that he has no problem with the Sangh.
But the parents of another 21-year-old girl have decided not to see her face again or allow her to visit their home.
The sarpanch said that two years ago both were trying to get married, but due to the uproar, the panchayat had to intervene.
Village sources said that the girl’s brother is also staying with his sister in the in-laws’ house. He said that his wife lives with their parents along with their two children.
SSP (Ludhiana Rural) Charanjit Singh said that if both are adults, then there is no role of police in getting married.
