The police took the four Nihangs to present them in the court.

The police on Saturday presented the four Nihangs who were on remand after surrender in the case of the brutal murder of Lakhbir Singh on the Singhu border on October 15. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the police has extended the remand of all the four. The security arrangements in the court premises were tight in view of the Nihangs’ production. Media entry was also banned inside the main gate.

Police have arrested four Nihangas Narayan Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh and Govindpreet in connection with the murder of Lakhbir Singh, a resident of Cheema Khurd in Tarn Taran. On Saturday, the police produced the four in the duty magistrate’s court. The police informed the court that after investigation so far some more names have come to the fore in the murder case. The police sought a four-day remand of the four Nihangs from the court to identify and arrest the new accused.

The defense counsel opposed the demand for further extension of the remand of the four. The defense said that the police have recovered the crime scene, murder weapon, blood-stained clothes etc. No more remand needed. After hearing both the sides, the court extended the police remand of the four Nihangs for 2 more days.

A family member will be able to meet for 20 minutes
The four Nihangs were produced in the court of Duty Magistrate First Class Priya Dutta. The court has fixed an appointment for a family member to meet the Nihangs for 20 minutes during this period. Along with this, he also ordered for daily medical treatment of all the four Nihangs.

Will identify the other Nihangs in the photo
After the court appearance, the IO and SIT in-charge of the case, DSP Virendra Singh told that the police have found some CCTV footage, photos and messages etc. during the investigation. Many Nihangs are visible in them, they have to be identified. All four have been taken on remand for 2 days. The police will do the work of arresting the four Nihangs after identifying the other Nihangs who were with them. Along with this, marking of other places will also be done.

One team now in Punjab
DSP Virendra Singh said that a police team is currently investigating in Punjab. Information is being gathered about Lakhbir. The information about what has been achieved in the investigation will be given when the team returns.

Mock drill was done a day ago
In view of the production of Nihangs, the police had conducted a mock drill in the Sonepat court premises on Friday to check the security arrangements. During this, security forces were deployed and information was given that the accused Nihangs are present in the brutal murder case on the Singhu border. The police appeared ready during this and the entry of the media was banned. Later the media was also called. Some Nihangs also reached the court on Friday but were stopped outside. Nihang’s turban had fallen due to the media scuffle at the last hearing. Due to this, the entry of media was banned in the court premises even on Saturday.
