National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has completed the country’s largest floating solar power project in Telangana. It was announced on Friday. This project will provide 100 MW power to Ramagundam city of Telangana.

The project has been prepared at a cost of Rs 423 crore. It is spread over 500 acres of Ramagundam Lake. While it is divided into 40 blocks, all the blocks will generate 2.5 MW of electricity. With the commissioning of this project, the commercial production of floating solar capacity in the southern region has increased to 217 MW.

92 in Kerala MW project
Earlier NTPC commissioned a 92 MW project at Kayamkulam, Kerala. It is spread over 350 acres in Kayamkulam. At the same time, commercial production of 25 MW floating solar in Simhadri, Andhra Pradesh was also announced. With this, the standalone and commercial capacity of NTPC has become 54,769.20 MW.

Solar module will balance the water temperature
It can save about 32.5 lakh cubic meters of water from vaporizing every year. The solar module will also help in maintaining the temperature balance. It will also save on consumption of 1,65,000 tonnes of coal annually.
