Country in midst of revolution with life-changing government schemes: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said the country is in the midst of a revolution with lives changing dramatically and democratically due to life-changing government schemes. The External Affairs Minister highlighted that the country is undergoing a socio-economic transformation in its attempt to create a social safety net that will elevate the bottom line of the nation. Jaishankar said that due to the implementation of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the country will be different in terms of its skills, demand, entrepreneurial and business acumen.

According to him, the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat means a better capable India, better fed, more healthy and more self-reliant and self-confident. However, self-reliant India is not trying to gain more power by building a wall, but by engaging with the global community.

Stating that Atmanirbhar India has people-centric policies, as the most important resource of a country is its people, Jaishankar said that enhancing the quality of human resources is one of the goals which will be a game-changer. If we have failed to achieve some of these goals in the past compared to other countries, it is not because of our practice of democracy. Besides, the process of reform has now started, he informed.

He said that last mile delivery is becoming possible due to drastic changes in governance and use of digital technology, which is crucially responsible for the scale of success of government schemes. Stating that New India is destined for a bigger place in the world, Jaishankar said that effective achievement of sustainable goals is the key to achieving it. He listed some of the tools to achieve these goals such as promoting physical infrastructure, urbanization, smart cities, digital policies and innovation.
