According to Dr. Guleria, “You will probably need a booster dose by the end of this year. But this is only once the population is vaccinated, so the next step would be to give a booster dose.”
Earlier, World Health Organization lead scientist Soumya Swaminathan had said that there is not enough scientific evidence to suggest that a COVID booster shot after COVID-19 vaccination can prove to be effective.
“We don’t have the necessary information to make a recommendation on whether a booster will be needed,” Swaminathan said.
According to Swaminathan, such a call is “premature”, while the most vulnerable in society are yet to receive their first course of vaccination.
