Coronavirus Live Updates: India records 2,685 new covid cases, 33 deaths in a day

New Delhi:

India on Saturday reported 2,685 new COVID-19 cases, taking its tally of infections to 4,31,50,215, while the number of active cases rose to 16,308, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.

The death toll rose to 5,24,572 with 33 deaths.

Active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.75 per cent, the ministry said.

The active COVID-19 caseload registered an increase of 494 cases in the 24-hour period.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.60 per cent and weekly positivity rate at 0.54 per cent, the ministry said.

Maharashtra reports first cases of new Omicron sub-variant

For the first time, four cases of BA 4 variant and three BA 5 variant of Omicron sub-lineage of corona virus have been found in Maharashtra, a state health department official said on Saturday.

He said that all of them had only mild symptoms and were treated at home.

These sub-species of Omicron were found in April in some parts of the world, including South Africa, but so far no cases have been reported in the state.

Thirty-eight new Kovid-19 cases in Bengal

West Bengal’s COVID-19 tally rose to 20,19,291 with 38 fresh cases, a health department bulletin said on Saturday.

It added that the death toll stands at 21,203 as no new deaths have been reported due to the infection in the last 24 hours.

Forty-one people were cured of the disease during this period, taking the total number of cured people to 19,97,747.
