According to Union Health Ministry data, India reported less than 20,000 Covid cases for the second day in a row, with 18,870 new cases, slightly higher than yesterday’s figure (18,795), and cumulative infections at 3,37, took up to 16,451.

The country saw a jump in daily deaths in a 24-hour period – from 179 deaths yesterday, it touched 378 today, taking the total number of deaths to 4,47,751.

According to the Union Health Ministry’s updated data on Wednesday, the active cases came down to 2,82,520, the lowest in 194 days.

Active cases comprise 0.84 per cent of the total infections – the lowest since March 2020 – while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.83 per cent – the highest since March 2020. A decrease of 9,686 cases has been registered in the active cases. COVID-19 caseload in a 24-hour period.

The daily positivity rate – the number of positive cases identified per 100 – for the last 30 days at 1.25 per cent is less than 3 per cent.

The Union Health Ministry said that the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 87 crore.

Himachal Pradesh government will give a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the family of each of those who died due to COVID-19, a state official said on Wednesday.

Sudesh Kumar Mokhta, director-cum-special secretary, revenue-disaster management, said that the state government has notified District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of all the 12 districts as disbursing authority for compensation.

Punjab reports 26 new COVID-19 cases
Punjab reported one Covid-related death and 26 fresh cases on Wednesday, a medical bulletin said.

It said that the total number of corona virus cases in the state so far is 6,01,600.
