The World Health Organization said on Thursday it needs $23.4 billion over the next 12 months for its plan to conquer Covid-19, urging the G20 to show some leadership and pay.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus bluntly told the Group of 20 global powers, meeting in Rome later this week, that they can no longer leave poor countries outside to dry up in the pandemic.

Australia’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign reaches frozen shores of Antarctica

Vaccines for COVID-19 have arrived at Australia’s Casey Research Center in Antarctica, officials said on Friday, allowing campaigners to get the vaccine before going back home to the world’s reopening country.

Australia is gradually easing pandemic restrictions as it ramps up vaccination levels after being shaken by a third wave of infections fueled by a delta variant in its southeast.

Sydney and Melbourne, its largest cities, are set to welcome residents flying from overseas without a full vaccination from 1 November – the first time in 18 months.
