Coronavirus in India: 15,981 new cases registered with 379 deaths, recovery rate at 98%

New Delhi: According to data from the Union Health Ministry, India recorded 15,981 coronavirus cases on Saturday, a decline of 5.7 per cent over the previous day. The ministry said active cases comprise 0.60 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.07 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India has increased to 3,40,53,573.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed that about 73 percent of the adult population has received a single dose of vaccine and about 30 percent has been given a double dose. Among Indian states, 11 states currently have over 1,000 active cases. According to the state website, Kerala has recorded the highest number of cases with 97630 active cases till Saturday. The test positivity rate in Kerala is 12.31. So far 2,50,11,531 people have been vaccinated in the state.

However, according to the daily data of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), there has been a massive decline in COVID-19 testing. A total of 9,23,003 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. While 11.80 lakh were tested on October 14, October 13 (13.01 lakh), October 12 (13.25 lakh), October 11 (11.81 lakh), October 10 (10.35 lakh) respectively. According to ICMR data, 58,98,35,258 tests have been done so far.

However, the death toll rose to 4,51,814 with 379 fresh deaths. Meanwhile, 97.23 crore vaccine doses have been given so far under the nationwide vaccination campaign.

The recovery rate currently stands at 98.08 per cent, the highest since March 2020. Active cases account for less than 1 per cent of the total cases, which is currently 0.59 per cent; lowest since March 2020

Whereas according to the government bulletin on Saturday morning, 166 Covid-related deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours.

The government of Puducherry extended the covid restrictions in the union territory till October 31, 2021 (midnight).

Meanwhile, Assam reported more single-day Covid-19 recoveries than fresh cases, while the death toll rose to 5,939 with one new fatality on Friday, the latest health bulletin issued by the National Health Mission said. Said, according to PTI.

The northeastern state recorded 147 new coronavirus cases on Friday, even as 284 patients were discharged from hospitals and Covid care centers during the day, it said.

The Covid-19 tally stood at 6,05,994, while 5,96,547 patients have recovered from the disease so far.
