New Delhi: Kerala Reported a slight decline in fresh COVID-19 Cases on Friday but the number increased for the second consecutive day Tamil Nadu Even though India’s daily number of cases declined marginally, it remained above 41,000 for the fourth day as well.
India on Friday reported 41,454 fresh cases of the virus, down from 44,681 the previous day, breaking a three-day streak of rising infections in the country. However, Friday’s number was higher than the number of cases reported last Friday, indicating a rising trend in infections.
Accordingly, the seven-day rolling average of daily cases crossed 40,000 on Friday after falling below that mark on July 13. The average had hit a low of 37,680 on July 25 and rose steadily to 40,246 on Friday.
The slight drop in the national number of cases on Friday was due to Kerala reporting less than 22,000 daily cases for the first time in four days. However, the state’s tally remained high at 20,772. The positivity rate in the state continued to grow at 13.6 per cent on Friday as well. The infection was also increasing in Tamil Nadu. The state recorded 1,947 new cases on Friday, up from 1,859 the previous day. On Thursday, the state had recorded an increase in daily cases for the first time after a decline of 69 days.

Karnataka, one of Kerala’s neighbors, where infections spiked on Thursday, reported 1,890 new cases. This was lower than Thursday’s 2,052 but higher than the number recorded for the rest of the week. In a positive sign, cases in the Northeast were showing signs of decline after weeks of increase. In the past one week, new cases in both Mizoram and Manipur, the two states with the highest number of infections (outside Assam), fell below 1,000. Maharashtra 6,600 new cases were reported, slightly less than Thursday’s count of 7,242.
The virus recorded 595 deaths in the country on Friday, including 231 in Maharashtra, 116 in Kerala and 66 in Odisha.
