Controversy over petrol-diesel tax: BJP surrounded the opposition for not reducing VAT, Rajasthan CM said – we have already reduced tax

A day before Diwali, the central government had made a big cut in tax on petrol and diesel.

After reducing the tax from petrol and diesel, the central government had appealed to the states to cut VAT, so that the prices of petrol and diesel could come down a bit. After the appeal of the Center, where the BJP-ruled states announced a reduction in VAT, many states including Rajasthan, including the Congress government, refused to reduce VAT. The BJP has attacked the opposition regarding this.

Gehlot said that the state’s VAT has already come down even before the central government reduced the excise duty. If the central government reduces more excise duty, then the VAT of the states will also automatically decrease. Gehlot did not respond to the BJP’s allegation that Rajasthan is collecting the highest VAT on petroleum.

After reducing the tax of the Center and the state, the price of petrol and diesel has come down by 10 to 12 rupees.

BJP’s target – why states do not reduce VAT
BJP has attacked the opposition for not reducing VAT on petrol and diesel. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Friday targeted Congress, Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party for not reducing tax. Bhatia said, ‘In Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Adityanath has cut petrol and diesel by up to Rs 12. This deduction is different from the Centre’s deduction.

“Like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Assam have also reduced prices by up to Rs 7,” Bhatia said. Now people in Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Rajasthan want to know why the state governments there did not take such steps.

In many parts of the country, the price of petrol had crossed Rs 118 per liter.

So far 13 states have not reduced VAT
Government oil companies have informed that till Friday evening, 14 states and union territories had not changed VAT on petrol and diesel. These include Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar and Jharkhand. At the same time, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Rajasthan also did not cut VAT till Friday evening. However, on Friday night, Odisha announced a reduction in VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 3 per liter.

Center reduced tax a day before Diwali
A day before Diwali, the central government made a big cut in excise duty on petrol and diesel. The Center announced a reduction of Rs 5 per liter on petrol and Rs 10 per liter in diesel. After this appealed to the states also to reduce VAT, so that the prices of petrol and diesel can come down further. After the appeal of the Center, the BJP-ruled states had announced a reduction in VAT.
